Shyamu Thapa Magar, Ph.D, Associate Professor of Anthropology, Central Department of Anthropology, TU, has been teaching from 2004. She is the member of Anthropological Society of Nepal.

  • Ph.D from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Japan in 2013 Academic Year. Doctoral Dissertation on  A Study of Magars Affiliated with Nepal Magar Association: Transition from Assimilation to Identity Construction.  Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University, Graduate School of Asia Pacific Studies, Major in Asia Pacific Studies under University Fellowship Programme.
  • MPhil in Human Ecology,  from University of Bergen, Norway in  2000.
  • M. A. in Social Anthropology, Central Department of Sociology/Anthropology, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, 1996.  
  • Intermediate and Bachelor in Law, Nepal Law Campus(intermediate and Bachelor in Law), Tribhuvan University, Nepal.

She is currently positioned as Associate Professor at  Central Department of Anthropology. Dr. Thapa Magar has 21 years of extensive experiences in both teaching and research related on  natural resource management,ethnic  and  indigenous rights( as indigenous peoples  expert in development sector), Gender and Feminism(GESI/GEDSI/TIP) and Religion and Rituals in Anthropology and Ethnic identity construction process in Nepal. Team leading research work funded by international organizations  as Principal investigator( Open Society Foundation), national level mini  research projects funded by both national level  agencies.

 Dr. Shyamu Thapa Magar has published articles in national and international journals, and book chapter besides article presented in conference and workshops.  She was granted fellowships from from different organizations.  Primary interest  toward anthropology of Ethnicity and ethnic identity construction process in Nepal, Gender and Feminism, anthropology of Development related with indigenous people, Natural Resource Management  and Legal Anthropological aspect.

She has been teaching for  Masters’ Degree (2004)and MPhil students led PhD. She is mentoring M.A., MPhil, and PhD student under Humanities and Social Science office of Dean and Department of Anthropology. She has provided her expertise of consultation in development sectors as required especially in indigenous rights, gender and feminism, runs training and research  as individual expert  on GEDS/GESI/TIP.
